Why I Write

A person’s life is not just dates and places. It’s a story.

Sure, I’m as fond as the next perfectionist of a carefully drawn genealogical chart and family tree, but as I trace the lines of my ancestry, stories are uncovered. Stories of convicts and colonists, soldiers and shipbuilders, missionaries and mothers.

Like my Grandma, I’m a storyteller.

I’m also an engineer, law grad, project manager and family historian. (I’ve never met a university course I didn’t like.)

I am writing a novel, based on the true story of my Nan’s journey as a child migrant in the 1920s. The story spans the globe, from an English village to outback Australia. It’s a story that has brought complete strangers to tears and long-lost family together.

If you’re here for the stories, read some now.
